This chapter introduces the framework, processes, and tools currently used at Sun Microsystems, Inc. (SMI or Sun) for executive leadership development. The long-term goals of the strategy and programs Sun are currently implementing for leadership development are simple:
· To ensure that there are sufficient “ready now” candidates to backfill key executives
· To provide the necessary processes to grow the senior leadership pool for continued long-term success
